The
European Lottery "Euromillions" Facts Explained
The
Euromillions lottery is currently available in these nine countries
and territories, namely Austria, Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg,
Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The first
ever Euromillions lottery draw took place in Paris on Friday
13th February 2004. Initially there were only three of the European
cities that were involved (United Kingdom, France and Spain),
the other six joined in October later that year.
It is
said that the European lottery (Euromillions) is one of the
most difficult lotteries to win, however when comparing the
odds with other lotteries it doesn’t seem so hard. The
odds of having that winning lottery ticket for this particular
lottery is approximately one in 76 million, meaning that there
are around 76million different number combinations available
to be selected.
There
are also smaller cash prizes that can also be won as with the
normal lottery. The odds of winning one of these is higher then
the odds of winning that big jackpot. The Euromillions regularly
has a "roll over" (no players have won so the cash
prize gets added to the following weeks jackpot). This creates
a huge excitement for many players who have high hopes of being
a lottery winner of a life changing amount of money, which results
in an increase to the amount of lottery tickets being purchased.
Also
to make the draw that little bit more exciting and appealing
to it's players (new and old), Camelot introduced the Euromillions
raffle late last year. This means that every Euromillions ticket
that is purchased in the U.K has become eligible to be entered
into the raffle. Each ticket is randomly allocated their nine
digit raffle number (consisting of three letters and six numbers)
as with all raffles you are unable to select your own numbers.
There is no change to the usual process of the ticket purchasing,
as the raffle is not optional. Camelot has however increased
the price by a small amount (50p) in allowance to compensate
for the raffle game.
